Never the Last Trail!

« on: April 25, 2019, 08:53:18 PM »

We spent three days camping, 4-Wheeling and exploring the Caruthers Canyon area.  We met up at the little town of Nipton where we had lunch before heading to the canyon.  Our intended route was closed due to weather damage so we chose an alternate route got us to camp early in the afternoon of day one.  We had a total of seven people and six rigs participate in the fun with people coming from as far away as Scottsdale, AZ.  Many thanks to Cliff R., Frank B., Steven H., Jim W., Will S. and Bill S. for making this one of the most enjoyable trips in recent memory.

We had a great camp site surrounded by pines and with two large oak trees in the middle which provided shade all day long.  Camp is at 5,600 feet which provided for mild daytime temperatures and nighttime lows in the high 40s to low 50s.  We wheeled many of the local trails with the highlight being the Caruthers Canyon trail.  The last 1/2 mile of the trail has been closed by a landslide so we hiked the remainder of the trail to the mine.  It was well worth the effort.
